The exhibition Slowly the Tide Returns by the artist group Tvaertimod / On the Contrary brings together works that, through animation, sound, textiles, painting, installation, embroidery and collaborative processes, approach the sea as more than a geographical entity or geological condition. It also becomes a connective space between people, histories, places and ecologies across the Nordic region.

Through both collective and individual works, the artists explore the sea and the coast as conditions for existence, memory and transformation. Like human memory, the sea is a dynamic, living archive: a space where forgetting and remembering flow into one another, shifting between what is preserved and what is lost.

Tvaertimod is a self-organised network of artists formed in 2024 out of a desire to create community and resonance across borders. Slowly the Tide Returns is the second in a series of exhibitions in which the group explores the ocean as material, memory, archive and a connecting force through collective and individual works. The first exhibition, High Tides and Quiet Pools, was shown at Galleria Huuto in Helsinki in June / July 2026.

Udstillingen Slowly the Tide Returns med kunstnergruppen Tvaertimod / On the Contrary samler værker, der gennem animation, lyd, tekstil, maleri, installation, broderi og fælles arbejdsprocesser ser på havet, som mere end en geografisk størrelse eller geolgisk vilkår. Det bliver også et forbindende rum mellem mennesker, historier, steder og økologier på tværs af Norden.

Med kollektive og individueller værker undersøger kunstnerne hav og kyst som grundlag for eksistens, erindring, transformation og livsvilkår. Ligesom menneskelig erindring er havet et dynamisk levende arkiv; et rum hvor glemsel og hukommelse flyder sammen. Noget forbliver imens andet forsvinder eller driver bort.

Tvaertimod er et selvorganiseret netværk af kunstnere der blev dannet i 2024 ud fra et behov om at skabe fællesskab og resonans på tværs af grænser ”Slowly the tide returns” er anden udstilling i rækken af en serie, hvor gruppen undersøger havet som materiale, hukommelse, arkiv og forbindelsesled med kollektive og individuelle værker. Den første udstilling High Tides and Quiet Pools blev vist i Helsinki, Finland på Gallaria Huuto i juni / juli 2026.
