Sydhavn Station is artist-run exhibition spaces from Copenhagen.
One of the more unique things about the Danish artscene is the number of artist-runned exhibition spaces. The artist-run exhibition space differs from the galleries as they do not necessarily have any commercial purposes and do not rely on a great work sale. They do not work under the usual art institutional framework with a certain responsibility to show the general renowned contemporary art to a wider public. The artist-run exhibition spaces is, as the name refers to, runned and organized by the artists themselves. It creates a space for collegial cooperation, where the exhibition site can be space for more experimental and process-oriented projects. Exhibition sites are often fully or partially financed by the artists' own funds. It is run by a professional commitment, a desire to create a space for critical thinking and challenge the limits of contemporary art. It is an admirable initiative which we at HFKD pay tribute to.
We are therefore pleased to invite c4 projects and Sydhavn station to exhibit in our spaces. The two artist-runned exhibition groups have curated each their own exhibitions based on the members of their collective.
